What instrument will I learn to play with Talented?

What instrument will I learn to play with Talented?

Talented helps you build an understanding of music theory, instead of teaching how to play a couple of songs on a specific instrument. With Talented, you can build a foundation in music theory that will help you with learning any instrument later on.

Why is Talented different?

Most music apps work by repeating one or two popular songs until you think you know how to play them. That approach gives you quick results and a rush of dopamine, but doesn’t help with the core understanding of music.

Talented takes a different approach. It focuses on helping you understand how music works. And empowered by that knowledge, you can later learn how to play any instrument, play music by ear, and even produce your own music.

With Talented, you can learn:

  • How to read notes.
  • How rhythms and timing function.
  • How chords and intervals are built.
  • How melodies are composed.

This creates a solid base you can rely on, instead of short-term memorization.

With the app, you can learn how to read, play, and even write your own music. Those memories won’t fade without constant repetition; they become a solid foundation for your future music endeavors. But don’t neglect your offline classes - Talented works best when paired with practical offline lessons.

As you progress, you move beyond just reading and playing. You start to recognize patterns, begin to understand music structure, and eventually gain the ability to write simple music yourself.

Virtual piano

Whatever instrument you choose to play, learning piano keyboard is an extremely useful skill. Learning piano keys helps you visualize notes, chords, and understand how music works. With a virtual piano in Talented, you will learn how to play simple music fragments, however this primarily serves a supportive role for learning the fundamentals of music.

Truly mastering the art of playing an instrument require a physical instrument itself, as well as an experienced tutor.

We recommend starting to play an instrument either at the same time or shortly (1–3 months) after beginning lessons in Talented. Playing an instrument immediately puts into practice what you learn in the app. Likewise, developing your skills with Talented helps you better understand what you’re doing on the instrument, gives you more freedom, and accelerates your progress.

Talented does not replace instrument practice—it makes it more productive, preparing you to play with greater skill, confidence, and creativity.
